A plain checklist of the papers a small trader in Darbhanga or Madhubani should keep ready before applying for GSTIN.

For a proprietorship
- PAN card of the proprietor
- Aadhaar card of the proprietor
- Recent passport size photograph
- Proof of business address - electricity bill, rent agreement or property tax receipt
- Bank account proof - cancelled cheque or first page of the passbook
Where people slip
The address proof must match the address you type into the form, character for character. If the electricity bill is in a parent's name, attach a consent letter along with their ID.
After you apply
The ARN arrives by SMS immediately. Approval normally lands in three to seven working days. If an officer raises a query you have seven days to reply, so check the registered email daily.
